Subject and Predicate – Class 4

Every complete sentence contains two parts, a subject and a predicate.
Subject
Subject is the part of the sentence which names the person or thing we are talking about.
Predicate
Predicate is the part of the sentence which says something about the subject.

Examples:

  1. Mahatma Gandhi was a freedom fighter.
    Subject: Mahatma Gandhi
    Predicate: was a freedom fighter.
  2. My sister is a good dancer.
    Subject: My sister
    Predicate: is a good dancer.
  3. The man and his wife works in a restaurant.
    Subject: The man and his wife
    Predicate: works in a restaurant.
  4. You should complete your homework.
    Subject: You
    Predicate: should complete your homework.
  5. Mr Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of India till 2014.
    Subject: Mr Manmohan Singh
    Predicate: was the Prime Minister of India till 2014.
  6. The Indian Cricket Team won the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
    Subject: The Indian Cricket Team
    Predicate: won the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
  7. Computers can calculate with very fast speed and accuracy.
    Subject: Computers
    Predicate: can calculate with very fast speed and accuracy.
  8. Rohan and Sanjana are playing in the park.
    Subject: Rohan and Sanjana
    Predicate: are playing in the park.
  9. The lazy old man walks very slowly.
    Subject: The lazy old man
    Predicate: walks very slowly.
  10. The students of DPS school participated in the quiz competition.
    Subject: The students of DPS school
    Predicate: participated in the quiz competition.
